7/6/2023 0 Comments Sholin vs lama![]() Angry with this, the head of the clan Yao Feng Lin, who is a Lama, decides to take his revenge on Shaolin. Meanwhile, in the vicinity of the temple, Sun Yu Ting saves a young girl from the clutches of the Sky Hawk Clan, with the help of the old Shaolin master's intervention. Angry with Hsu Shi for smuggling an outsider into the temple, the master initially refuses to teach Sun Yu Ting, despite the young man's dogged persistence. He bumps into a young Shaolin monk, Hsu Shi, who has slipped out of the temple to acquire items for his master, and so Sun You Ting asks Hsu Shi to take him to Shaolin so he can learn from the young monk's master. To this end, he is in search of a master, and the acid test of someone worthy of teaching him is their ability to defeat him in combat. Sun Yu Ting is a man who has dedicated his life to kung fu. This has probably contributed to its cult status, as it has a surprising number of fans considering its humble background featuring a prolific but not especially notable cast. One of the most noteworthy things about this Taiwanese film from 1983 is the extensive use of samples from the English-dubbed version in albums by GZA and Raekwon. He is rather loyal to Sun Yu Ting, despite his oppressive nature.In a genre spanning several decades and literally thousands of films, it is difficult for a kung fu film to stand out, particularly when up against classics of the genre with big name actors or from well-established studios. He is very agile, but lacks in his Kung Fu. ![]() He is the perfect leader for the local crime ring, the Sky hawk clan. He kills off several characters - including Yan Zu and Hsu Shi's master - as well as severely injuring the head abbot. Yao Feng Lin is a vile man, capable of destruction. Nonetheless, he is considerate and means no harm. ![]() Sun Yu Ting is a good man, but can sometimes show up as a bully or infidel, especially with Hsu Shi. Yu now swears revenge but before he can leave Shaolin he has to learn the 'Buddha Finger' technique, requested by his master to learn in order to defeat the Lama Chief. Hsu Shi's master eventually agrees to take Yu Ting on as a student but lessons are cut short when the Lama turns up and kills the master (who therefore becomes ex-master). The head of the gang is a chief Lama, Yao Feng Lin, a sworn enemy of Shaolin who, twelve years ago, stole one of temple's most treasured martial arts manuals: the I ching manual. Yu is only allowed back into the temple after he rescues a girl escaping from the dreaded Sky hawk clan. Eventually these antics come to the attention of the senior abbot who expels Yu Ting from the temple altogether. Yu then resorts to trickery to try to learn techniques from the aged monk, Using the techniques the master uses against himself. Although Hsu's master (often referred to as Grandmaster) defeats Yu with ease he refuses to take him on as a student. After five years of challenging masters but never being beaten he runs into Hsu Shi (William Yen), a young Shaolin monk who stole money from a gambling match in order to acquire meat and wine for his master, who later discovers Yu Ting inside the Buddhist temple. Lo Jui plays Sun Yu Ting, a Kung Fu fanatic in search of a teacher.
